There are a number of types of acne which stem from a variety of causes.

Our expert practitioners will work with you to help you better understand your specific type and then recommend the most suitable non-invasive, non-irritating treatment to address your individual needs – no matter how severe – to ensure the improved quality, health, and appearance of your skin.

Our selection of traditional and natural skin care products, in conjunction with nutritional guidance, can also be used as part of a holistic solution to help improve skin affected by acne.

What is Acne?

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition affecting men and women in their teenage years that often persists into adulthood. A response to various stresses such as hormonal changes, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors, acne is caused by the obstruction of hair follicles by skin cells and/or sebum (an oil that prevents dryness). The subsequent bacterial growth results in the formation of blemishes including; whiteheads, blackheads, small pink bumps (papules), pustules, nodules (deep skin pimples), and cysts. Severe or untreated acne can leave skin scarred, rough, and pitted with discoloration.

Root causes of acne:

• Hormones: Puberty, raised androgen levels from stress, menstruation, menopause, and polycystic ovarian syndrome

• Dry Skin: Sebaceous glands produce excess oil when our skin is too dry in an effort to create balance, often resulting in clogged pores

• Lifestyle: Unhealthy eating habits, alcohol, and prescription drugs

• Environment: Skin irritation and inflammation from skin care products, cosmetics, chemicals, and toxins found environmentally

• Genetics: Our genes can also play a role in the development of acne

Acne scars can be unsightly, causing us to be self-conscious.

Our treatment protocols reduce, and often completely eliminate, the evidence of acne scarring.

Based on your individual requirements, our expert practitioners will recommend one – or a combination of a few – of our technologically advanced treatments including laser skin resurfacing,

IPL Photofacial, chemical peels, and LightStim LED to rejuvenate, restore, and smooth your skin to its original, glowing glory.

Why is my skin scarred from a few pimples? For teenage and adult women and men alike, the effects of acne can linger long after active blemishes have cleared.  Acne lesions penetrate deep into the epidermis, often damaging tissues underneath.  Two main types of scars form as the body attempts to repair itself by producing collagen: hypertrophic scars are the result of excess collagen, and atrophic scars form from a lack of collagen production.

Types of acne scars:

  • Mild
  • Jagged, “wave-length”
  • Hypertrophic (raised)
  • Atrophic (depressed)
  • Tiny hole “ice pick”
  • Keloid
  • Discolored marks

Age spots and sun spots can seem to appear out of nowhere, overnight. Fortunately, we employ a variety of technologies – from advanced Laser Skin Resurfacing to IPL Photofacial, and chemical peels – to treat and resolve these spots for patients at any stage of life.

Our practitioners will diagnose and evaluate your specific condition, then prescribe an individual treatment program that will restore a more youthful appearance to your face, hands, and any other body part affected by unsightly discoloration.

Why do I get these spots? Sun exposure, tanning beds, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light, and genetic factors can cause tan, brown, and black spots of varying sizes and shapes to appear on the skin’s surface, especially the face, neck and hands.  Also known as liver spots, age spots or sun spots are an indication of excess melanin secretion (pigmentation) – the body’s attempt to shield itself from further sun damage.  While usually harmless, they can be a cosmetic concern.

Indications of age spots:

  • Small brown or black circles as small as a freckle or as large as a nickel
  • May be slightly raised or flat against the skin
  • Tendency to develop as clusters
  • Located on areas of maximum sun exposure such as the face, neck, hands, arms, and shoulders
  • Most noticeable on fair complexion skin

Protruding veins, fine lines, and wrinkles can make us feel prematurely old.

No matter how diligent you are with sunscreen and preventative skin care, you cannot avoid the inevitable aging process.

Fortunately, time can be reversed with several advanced, non-invasive treatments such as Laser Skin Resurfacing, IPL Photofacial, Chemical Peels, and Facials that rejuvenate the skin to achieve a smoother, plumper, more youthful appearance.

About aging skin: Over time, the body produces less collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, causing hands to lose volume – making bones, veins, and tendons more prominent, and highlighting the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration.

Genetics, environmental pollutants, UV rays from the sun, and toxins form free radicals in the body that damage cell function, contributing to premature aging and its unwanted consequences.

Signs of aging skin:

  • Thin, wrinkled appearance
  • Brown or black circles either raised or flat against the skin
  • Compromised skin tone
  • Protruding veins and tendons in hands

Accumulated fat under your chin, neck, jowls, and jaw line can be difficult to resolve with diet and exercise alone, no matter how hard we try.

Until recently, painful procedures such as liposuction or neck lift surgery were the only treatments available to address this issue.

Fortunately, with the introduction of recent technology, there are now less painful, safer, non-invasive options, such as Cool Mini.

CoolMini is a gentle and extremely effective treatment that freezes fat cells that are then naturally eliminated from the body, restoring the appearance of a contoured jaw line, and more youthful profile.

Why do I have a double chin? A double chin is the result of waning collagen production combined with a reduction in skin elasticity – unwanted, but often unavoidable, consequences of aging. Unfortunately, this exercise-resistant area is one of the first places we store fat when we gain weight, or simply as a symptom of aging.

Due to the genetic makeup of the body, it can be almost impossible to fight body fat stores – especially around the waist, hips, and thighs.

Liposuction, and other painful surgeries, used to be the only remedy.

Fortunately, modern technology has allowed for treatment options that are painless, non-invasive, and with zero recovery time.

Coolsculpting is a gentle and extremely effective protocol that freezes fat cells that are then naturally eliminated from the body, leaving behind – over a period of a few months – a slimmer, tighter appearance that can be enhanced and sustained in conjunction with our DNA Medical Weight Management program.

Why do we store excess body fat? A vital component of our cellular membranes, fat serves an important purpose in our bodies by storing energy, vitamins, and nutrients.

Unfortunately, our metabolism slows as we age, making it more difficult to manage fat levels. As our skin thins and loses flexibility, fat cells become more pronounced, often with an unsightly texture – the appearance of cellulite. In addition to increased exercise and an altered diet with improved nutritional value, sometimes we require external intervention, such as CoolSculpting or advanced nutritional guidance, to achieve a desired level of fat reduction.

Smiling, squinting, frowning, and other daily expressions, combined with excess sun exposure, environmental factors, and a genetic predisposition, can cause fine lines and wrinkles to appear – sometimes prematurely – between the eyes and around the lips.

Fortunately, modern technology allows us to slow the aging process with several advanced, non-invasive treatments such as lasers, peels, and dermal fillers that rejuvenate the skin to achieve a smoother, plumper, more youthful appearance.

About Fine Lines + Wrinkles:

Wrinkles and fine lines can begin to appear at any age – an inevitable byproduct of facial movement. While diligent skin care and hydration can help to maintain a youthful appearance, genetics, collagen reduction, and environmental factors (the sun, pollutants, free radicals, etc.) take their toll.

Factors affecting collagen production:
• Sun
• Genetics
• Auto-immune disorders
• Smoking
• High sugar consumption
• Air pollutants + free radicals
Signs of aging skin:
• Thin, wrinkled appearance
• Brown or black circles either raised or flat against the skin • Compromised skin tone
• Protruding veins and tendons in hands

Androgenetic hair loss (also known as pattern baldness) caused by thyroid disease, hormones, genetics, anemia, protein deficiency, chemotherapy, and low vitamin levels is seen in both men and women, but is more dramatic in men.

Alopecia areata is a form of hair loss produced by the autoimmune destruction of hair follicles in localized areas of skin.

Both types of hair loss can cause severe self-consciousness.

Fortunately, decades of innovation have set a new standard for natural looking follicle regeneration, particularly using PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatments that quickly and safely initiate the body’s healing process.

Why am I losing my hair?

Hair loss is an issue that can affect both men and women at any age. Genetics, our environment, stress, vitamin deficiency, and autoimmune disorders can all exacerbate thinning, receding hair, often adversely affecting our self-image.

Dealing with unwanted hair on the face, back, arms and legs, or bikini area takes constant attention.

The laser hair removal treatments we offer are rapid, effective, and safe.

Laser hair removal selectively targets the roots of coarse, dark hair – whether in small (between the eyes or the lip) or large (legs or back) patches while leaving the surrounding skin completely undamaged.

Laser hair removal treatments eliminate costly, time consuming shaving and waxing efforts that can leave painful rashes and ingrown hairs behind.

Benefits of hair removal:
• Effectively targets large areas of hair growth
• Rapid, effective, safe results • Eliminates the need for shaving + waxing
• Selectively targets coarse, dark hair
• Results in softer, smoother skin from lack of shaving

Dark patches, age spots, and uneven skin tone are indicative of hyperpigmentation, a complex skin condition caused by excess melanin production.

Our comprehensive, individualized approach takes into account your type of pigmentation, your skin tone, any prior treatments you’ve received, and your lifestyle, to determine the best strategy to painlessly resolve your skin’s discoloration and restore your youthful complexion.

Our non-invasive treatment options can be used alone, or in conjunction with one another, and include Laser Skin Resurfacing, IPL Photofacial, and/or chemical peels depending on the type, severity, and genesis of your skin’s color changes.

About Melasma + Pigmentation:

Melanin is a dark brown or black substance that provides color to the hair, eye (iris), and skin. The amount and type of melanin produced in each person’s body depends upon genetic factors such as ethnicity. When too much or too little melanin is produced, skin pigmentation disorders occur.

Other factors causing hyperpigmentation include hormone flux, sun damage, and external environmental factors. Melasma, also known as “pregnancy mask” is a very common condition in which dark, irregular patches of skin appear due to naturally occurring hormones throughout pregnancy, hormone therapy, during the use of birth control pills, or due to sun exposure.

The best way to prevent and combat hyperpigmentation is the ample use of sunscreen, wearing long sleeves and sunglasses, or avoiding the damaging UV rays from sun exposure altogether.

Causes of hyperpigmentation:

• Genetics
• Hormone imbalance, especially during pregnancy
• Skin injuries
• Sun exposure
• Birth control pills • Hormone therapy

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition marked by intermittent facial redness, swelling, and ruddy texture due to visible capillaries, bumps and pimples, thickening skin, and a variety of other blemishes that can be difficult to mask on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and/or chin.

Our experienced practitioners will consult with you to develop a custom treatment plan to address your specific needs.

A combination of light and lasers has proven highly effective at calming the inflammation and redness associated with this condition.

By using the advanced technologies found in Laser Skin Resurfacing and IPL Photofacial, we can mitigate our client’s severe symptoms caused by unsightly and uncomfortable flare-ups.

Causes of Rosacea:

The precise cause of Rosacea is unknown, however certain factors such as hot drinks, spicy foods, alcohol, extreme temperatures, exposure to sunlight or wind, and certain cosmetics can trigger flare-ups.

Four Types of Rosacea:

1. FACIAL REDNESS: Erythematotelangiectatic (ETR): Causes flushing, redness, visible blood vessels + other symptoms
2. BUMPS + PIMPLES: Papulopustular: Characterized by acne-like flare-ups including oily skin, increased sensitivity, broken blood vessels + raised skin patches. Tends to occur among middle-aged women.
3. THICKENING SKIN: Rhinophyma: Most common among men, it appears as thick, bumpy nasal skin with enlarged pores + broken blood vessels
4. EYES: Ocular: Symptoms are centered around the delicate eye area such as bloodshot, watery eyes, light sensitivity, a burning sensation + diminished vision

Visible scars can unnecessarily impact a person’s self-confidence.

We employ the most current, proven technologies – from Laser Skin Resurfacing to Gentle Chemical Peels to Dermal Fillers – to address scarring whether the result of acne, trauma, stretch marks, or injuries such as burns, cuts, blemishes, or piercings to successfully reduce their appearance.

Our experienced practitioners will evaluate your condition and advise you of the treatment strategy most suited to repair the size and depth of the affected scar tissue, in the quickest, least painful, and most effective manner.

About Scars:
Scar tissue is thicker than the surrounding unaffected skin, giving the appearance of unevenness and discoloration.

Caused by a variety of factors including acne, severe burns, piercings, cuts, or other skin trauma, modern technologies can be leveraged to smooth and restore skin to its youthful appearance.

Types of Scars:
Acne: Permanent signs of a healed blemish include the appearance of indentations, discoloration, and  large pores
Keloid: Lumpy, hard growths caused by the over production of scar tissue during the healing process
Contracture: Tightened skin resulting from excessive second or third degree burns
Hypertrophic: Raised, red scars caused by burns, piercings, cuts + other trauma
Stretch marks: Tiny tears resulting from skin growing faster than collagen can be produced

A natural, yet unwanted, effect of body growth due to the stretching of the skin, these bands of parallel lines with a purple, pink, or grey texture can have a dramatic effect on skin’s appearance, making people self-conscious.

Fortunately advanced, non-invasive Laser Skin Resurfacing technologies are available to increase collagen production and trigger natural cell repair, reducing pigment, and improving texture with little to no pain and minimal recovery time.

Most of our patients are able to immediately resume normal activities, experiencing only minor redness and swelling at the treatment site that quickly dissipates.

What are Stretch Marks?

Stretch Marks are a scarring of the skin caused by increased volume from weight gain or pregnancy, excessive growth during puberty, genetics, or the use of certain medications such as steroids.

Causes of Stretch Marks:
• Pregnancy
• Puberty
• Weight gain
• Certain medications
• Genetics
